How to Send Documents on WhatsApp Without Them Looking Terrible

We all send documents on WhatsApp now — the rent agreement, a bill, someone's Aadhaar for a booking. And we've all been on the other end, squinting at a blurry photo trying to read a number that just won't come into focus. There's a reason that happens, and a simple way around it.

Why WhatsApp blurs your photos

When you attach a picture the normal way (the little camera/gallery icon), WhatsApp compresses it hard to save data. That's fine for a selfie, terrible for a document where every digit has to be legible. The app throws away exactly the detail you needed.

Fix 1: send it as a document, not a photo

The quickest trick: instead of the gallery icon, use the attach → Document option and pick the image from there. Sent as a document, it isn't re-compressed, so it arrives at full quality. The catch is that very large files may fail or take forever, which brings us to the real solution.

Fix 2: prepare the file first

The reliable approach is to turn your document into a proper PDF and keep it a sensible size before sending.

1. If it's a photo, first bring it to a reasonable size with Compress Image to Size — aim for something like 200–500 KB, which stays sharp but sends instantly.
2. Turn one or more photos into a single file with JPG → PDF. A PDF is easier for the other person to open, print, or forward than a stack of images.
3. If the PDF is still heavy, run it through Compress PDF.

Now share the PDF as a document. It arrives crisp, opens the same on every phone, and doesn't eat anyone's storage.

When you're the one who received a blurry PDF

Sometimes you get a document and need to pull one page out as an image — to crop it, or paste it somewhere. PDF → JPG turns each page into a clean image you can work with.
